Blockchain is an emerging technology with the potential to disrupt traditional business models and revolutionize the way we do global business. According to LinkedIn, blockchain was the most in-demand hard skill of 2020. Top blockchain recruiters include: IBM, Oracle, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, Amazon, and American Express.
Universities across the world are reacting to the increasing demand for blockchain skills and introducing degrees specializing in blockchain.
Below we list, in chronological order, those universities already offering blockchain degrees. This includes Financial Technology (FinTech) degrees where part of the curriculum is focused on blockchain.
University of Nicosia
Since 2014, the University of Nicosia in Cyprus has offered a Master of Science (MS) in Digital Currency. It was the first university in the world to launch a full academic degree in blockchain.
The online master’s degree is typically completed in 13-18 months (split over three semesters), and consists of a range of required and elective courses, as well as the option to undertake a thesis or project. The curriculum is designed to help students “better understand the technical underpinnings of digital currency, how it will likely interact with existing monetary and financial systems, and what opportunities exist for innovation in digital currency systems.”
The University of Nicosia also offers a Master of Science (MS) in Computer Science with a Concentration in Blockchain Technologies. In addition to covering the analysis, design, and development of computer systems, the online degree focuses on “programmable smart contracts and the associated architectures such as Ethereum.”
Tuition and fees are €12,960 (≈$15,000) for the MS Digital Currency and €12,060 (≈$14,000) for the MS Computer Science. Financial aid is also available through a number of a need-based and merit scholarships.
New York University
Since Fall 2016, New York University’s (NYU) Stern School of Business has offered a FinTech Specialization for full-time and part-time students pursuing the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in General Management.
The specialization was jointly created by the Finance and Information, Operations and Management Sciences departments, and is one of more than 20 specializations available in the NYU Stern MBA curriculum. The specialization includes nine credits, or about three courses. Students can pick electives focusing on digital currencies, blockchains, and the future of the financial services industry.
The full-time MBA program last two years while the part-time MBA typically takes two to six years to complete. This option is designed for working professionals, with classes offered on weeknights or Saturdays, or through an accelerated two-year program.
University of Mumbai
Since July 2017, the University of Mumbai has offered a Master’s in FinTech. The two-year full-time master’s degree is delivered by the university’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development, in collaboration with BSE Institute Ltd, a subsidiary of BSE, Asia’s oldest stock exchange.
The curriculum covers the fundamentals of the financial markets, as well as topics like blockchain, cryptocurrency, machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data. Taught in English, a blended learning approach combines theory, intensive practice, and industry engagement. A summer internship is required in the third semester.
Classes take place at BSE and students are able to participate in corporate and student events, like the BSE International Financial Olympiad and Stock Torero, a national level trading competition.
Northeastern University
Since Fall 2017, Northeastern University’s College of Engineering has offered a Master of Science (MS) in Information Systems with a Blockchain Technology Specialization .
The two-year master’s degree can be taken either at Northeastern’s Silicon Valley satellite campus in the San Francisco Bay Area, or in a blended format with several courses offered online from Northeastern’s primary campus in Boston, Massachusetts. Because of this, the degree is targeted at software engineering professionals already working in or relocating to the Silicon Valley region.
The program provides students with the opportunity to acquire expertise in developing blockchain technology to improve business practices through cryptocurrency, decentralized cloud storage, digital security, and smart contracts. Students will learn how to build distributed ledger applications and be taught industry tools, such as the Solidity programming language, frameworks like web3.js, and the Ethereum platform.
Fordham University
Since Fall 2017, Fordham University has offered Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs with a FinTech Concentration and a Blockchain Secondary Concentration.
Set in the heart of New York City, Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business offers a two-year Full-Time MBA program, a Professional MBA program designed for students who want to continue working through school, and an accelerated Executive MBA program for experienced professionals.
Students who pursue the FinTech Concentration can choose to focus on the technical aspects of recent financial innovations (i.e. computational aspects), or on the applications of FinTech, such as the use of blockchain for cryptocurrencies and machine learning for data analytics.
Those who pursue the Blockchain Secondary Concentration will cover the fundamentals of blockchain technology, including cryptocurrencies as a funding mechanism, and legal and regulatory issues.
University of Strathclyde
Since September 2017, the University of Strathclyde has offered a Master of Science (MS) in FinTech. The 12-month full-time degree is taught on campus at Strathclyde Business School in Glasgow.
The FinTech master’s degree is more focused on big data techniques, computer programing, and analytical methods than blockchain. However, students are required to complete two projects – one technology and one financial – which can be in a research area of interest to them. There is also the opportunity to learn about Python programming.
In addition to the full-time option in Glasgow, the MS FinTech is offered part-time over two-years in Bahrain, primarily through face-to-face intensive classes at weekends.
The degree costs £13,550 (≈$17,500) for UK/EU students and £24,300 (≈$31,500) for international students. The part-time degree in Bahrain costs 10,000 Bahraini Dinar (≈$26,500).
Dongguk University
Since 2018, Dongguk University’s Graduate School of International Affairs and Information Security has offered a Master’s in Blockchain. Dongguk is a Buddhist-affiliated university based in Seoul, South Korea.
The Blockchain Major is taught in Korean and balances theoretical knowledge with practical learning. Students study the background, characteristics, and functions of blockchain technology, and analyze its importance from a political, social, and economic perspective.
The curriculum covers: advanced cryptography; consensus algorithms; blockchain applications; cryptocurrency and Bitcoin; public and private blockchains; smart contracts; privacy laws; and network and cyber security.
Sogang University
Since January 2018, Sogang University’s Graduate School of Information and Communication has offered a Master’s in Blockchain. Sogang is a private research university based in Seoul, South Korea.
The Blockchain Major is taught in Korean, and consists of a Blockchain System Track and a FinTech Track. Students must complete either a thesis or a task-specific workshop in order to graduate.
The Blockchain System Track focuses on the principles, applications, and security of blockchain technology. The curriculum covers: distributed ledger technology; blockchain applications; cryptography; network security; smart contracts; consensus algorithms; and digital currency.
The FinTech Track focuses on how technologies like big data, social networks, and cloud computing can be utilized to create new financial services.
University of Alcalá
Since February 2018, the University of Alcalá near Madrid, Spain has offered a Master in Blockchain, Smart Contracts, and Cryptoeconomics. The 14-month degree program is taught in Spanish and 100% online.
The master’s degree aims to provide students with comprehensive training in blockchain technology, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), and smart contracts. The curriculum covers the underlying game theory elements of blockchain and the technical foundations of developing blockchain applications, with an emphasis on the Ethereum platform. The program also focuses on the legal and regulatory implications of cryptocurrencies and other systems based on smart contracts.
Since October 2020, the University of Alcalá has also offered a Master in Blockchain Engineering. This is a more technical program aimed at engineers who want to learn how to design and develop DApps, smart contracts, cryptocurrencies, and tokens. The 14-month degree program is also taught in Spanish and 100% online.
Both degree programs cost €4,500 (≈$5,250) and payment can be made using cryptocurrencies!
University of Cape Town
Since June 2018, the University of Cape Town in South Africa has offered a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in FinTech. The degree can be taken part-time or full-time over the course of a year, and is taught at the university’s campus in Cape Town.
The curriculum provides students with an understanding of financial markets, recent financial innovation, big data analysis, distributed ledger technologies, cryptocurrencies, machine learning, and software design. Students are encouraged to collaborate with local FinTech start-ups when developing practical projects.
The degree costs R65,572 (≈$4,000). A number of scholarships are available.
Singapore University of Social Sciences
Since July 2018, the School of Business at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) has offered a Master of Finance (MFin). Unlike traditional finance programs, the degree focuses on FinTech and financial innovations. The curriculum includes compulsory courses on blockchain applications, blockchain security, and python programming.
The master’s degree is targeted at existing finance professionals who wish to upskill themselves, and emphasizes technical and programming skills. With evening and weekend on-campus classes, students can continue to work during the day. The degree can be completed within one-and-a-half to four years.
University of Sussex
Since September 2018, the University of Sussex has offered a Master of Science (MS) in FinTech, Risk and Investment Analysis. The one-year, full time master’s degree is taught at the university’s Falmer campus near Brighton, England.
The curriculum is designed to teach students about the financial markets and prepare them for careers in quantitative finance. However, there is the opportunity to specialize in FinTech. A core module covers basic cryptography, blockchain construction, applications of distributed ledger technology, smart contracts, and cryptocurrency markets. An optional module explores cryptography in more depth, including hash functions and public-key cryptosystems.
Tuition fees are £12,450 (≈$16,000) for UK/EU students and £23,000 (≈$30,000) for international students.
Since September 2019, the University of Sussex has also offered a Bachelor of Science (BS) in FinTech. It is one of the first universities in Europe to offer an undergraduate degree in FinTech. Like most British undergraduate degrees, the program is three-years full-time. However, students can choose to study abroad for an additional year, or apply for a professional placement year.
The first two years of the program provide an introduction to FinTech, as well as coding and programming skills. During the third year, the curriculum covers many aspects of blockchain technology: cryptography, blockchain construction, applications of distributed ledger technology, smart contracts, and cryptocurrency markets (Bitcoin and Ether).
Tuition fees are £9,250 (≈$12,000) per year for UK/EU students and £22,500 (≈$29,000) for international students.
Manchester Metropolitan University
Since September 2018, Manchester Metropolitan University has offered a Master of Science (MS) in FinTech. The degree can be completed full-time in one year or part-time in two years, and is taught on-campus in Manchester, England.
The curriculum covers recent innovations in technology including digital finance, machine learning, and behavioural science. The fundamentals of programming are taught, and an in-depth consultancy-based dissertation is required. The program is less focused on blockchain but strives to ensure students graduate ready for senior jobs in financial services – from innovative tech start-ups to large banking institutions.
The tuition fees are £9,250 (≈$12,000) for full-time UK/EU students and £15,000 (≈$19,500) for full-time international students.
University of Stirling
Since September 2018, the University of Stirling has offered a Master of Science (MS) in FinTech. The degree is delivered on-campus in Scotland and can be completed full-time in one year or part-time in two years. The one-year option is now also available at the university’s Ras Al Khaimah campus in the United Arab Emirates.
Taught by the Division of Computing Science and Mathematics, the master’s degree is designed to provide students with an understanding of financial theory and practical skills in software design, data analytics and machine learning. The curriculum covers blockchain, cyber security, data analytics, regulation and ethics, behavioural finance, innovation management, and new venture creation. Cryptocurrencies, decentralized applications, smart contracts, and scripting in Python are all explored in further detail.
A three-month summer dissertation project is required. Recent examples have included: an analysis of bitcoin investment strategies; and implementing a contract manager on blockchain.
The tuition fees are £8,500 (≈$11,000) for UK/EU students and £20,750 (≈$27,000) for international students. The degree at the Ras Al Khaimah campus costs 54,500 AED (≈$15,000).
IEBS
Since October 2018, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Business School (IEBS) has offered a Master in Blockchain & FinTech. Taught in Spanish, the degree is offered 100% online.
The online master’s degree consists of sixteen modules and a final project. It takes an estimated 750 hours to complete. Students will learn about blockchain-based systems and the architecture and algorithms on which they are based. The curriculum also covers the legal and regulatory implications of cryptocurrencies and smart contracts. The program costs €5,750 (≈$7,750) but scholarships are available.
IEBS was founded in Spain in 2009 as an alternative to traditional business schools. It has headquarters in Madrid, Barcelona, and Montevideo, Uruguay. Programs are certified and accredited by the King Juan Carlos University (URJC) based in Madrid.
Hochschule Mittweida
Since October 2018, the Hochschule Mittweida University of Applied Sciences has offered a Master of Science (MS) in Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). The degree is taught on-campus in Mittweida, Germany. Some courses are taught in English but the majority are held in German.
The master’s degree comprises four semesters. Students can choose to specialize in either technical aspects (Mathematics and Computer Science) or business-related aspects (Law and Risk Management). During the third semester, students are required to complete an internship in industry or at the Blockchain Competence Center Mittweida. A master’s project is completed during the final semester.
EU Business School
Since October 2018, the EU Business School has offered a Master of Business Adminstration (MBA) in Blockchain Management. The EU Business School is a private business school with campuses in Barcelona, Geneva, Montreux, Munich, and online. The MBA is offered on-campus at the Barcelona and Swiss campuses, and also as an online degree. Students have the opportunity to transfer between them.
Taught in English, the MBA is a one-year (three-term) program with year-round admission. Fees are €6,950 (≈$8,000) per term. The degree is also available as a two-year (six-term) part-time degree.
The first two terms provide a solid foundation in financial and business management, with the third term focused on blockchain and cryptocurrencies. This includes the role of blockchain in sustainable development and the non-profit industry. Students are also required to complete a management research methods module and a dissertation.
The MBA degree is awarded by the Universidad Católica San Antonio, a private university located in Murcia, Spain.
Montpellier Business School
Since late 2018, Montpellier Business School has offered a Master of Science (MS) in Finance with an Innovative Finance: FinTech, Blockchains and Cryptocurrencies Specialization. The ten-month, full-time master’s degree is taught on-campus in Montpellier, France.
The fall semester provides a substantial foundation in corporate finance. The advanced specialization in FinTech and blockchain is taught during the spring semester and covers: blockchain technology; cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin; Ethereum; data protection; regulation; ethics; disruptive models; and initial coin offerings (ICOs). A master’s thesis is also required. At the end of the degree, students are required to complete a short (four-to-six month) professional project, in France or overseas.
aSSIST University
Since December 2018, Seoul Business School at aSSIST University has offered Master of Business Administration (MBA) in AI Crypto. The MBA is designed “for professionals to acquire the expertise needed to be at the forefront of digital currency innovation” and can be completed in 18 months.
Classes are taught on Friday evenings and Saturdays at aSSIST’s flagship campus in Seoul, just minutes away from the capital’s financial district. Tuition is ₩9,700,000 (≈$8,250) per semester.
The curriculum covers: distributed ledger technology and blockchain; cryptocurrencies; game theory; programming; legal and regulatory issues; monetary and financial systems; big data; and machine learning.
University of Barcelona
Since March 2019, the University of Barcelona has offered a Global Master’s in Blockchain Technologies. The 100% online degree is delivered by the Institute of Continuing Education in collaboration with Zigurat Innovation and Technology Business School. The program takes one-year to complete and costs €14,900 (≈$17,500).
The online master’s degree is designed to teach students the fundamentals of blockchain technology and how to implement it successfully. The curriculum covers: blockchain architecture; cryptography; cryptocurrencies; smart contracts; and legal and regulatory implications. For their final master’s project, students will have to either implement blockchain technologies in a business model (Business Path), or develop a software application based on blockchain (Technical Path).
Swinburne University of Technology
Since March 2019, Swinburn University of Technology has offered a Master of FinTech. The degree is taught on-campus in Victoria, Australia, and is intended for working professionals. Classes are taught after work hours or on Fridays or Saturdays, in six-week intensive teaching blocks. The duration is between one- and two-years full-time or equivalent part-time, dependent on prior qualifications and experience.
The curriculum covers areas such as the application and commercialization of blockchain technology, business analytics, artificial intelligence, and applied projects. All students will study blockchain and cryptography fundamentals, smart contracts, cryptocurrency, blockchain-enabled business models, and the regulatory environment. Students can choose to study a range of electives or complete a specialization in a field such as Entrepreneurship and Innovation, or International Business.
Miguel de Cervantes European University
Since March 2019, the Miguel de Cervantes European University (UEMC) in Valladolid, Spain has offered a Master in Applied Blockchain: Programming, Taxation and Cryptoeconomics. The degree is taught in Spanish and 100% online.
The online degree prioritizes the practical application of blockchain technology, with a methodology of ‘learning by doing’. Students are expected to learn how to program a cryptocurrency and launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO). A substantial part of the syllabus is dedicated to programming – using both Ethereum and Hyperledger. Students have the option to complete an internship as part of the program. Incubator opportunities also exist for the most promising final master’s projects.
Sharda University
Since July 2019, Sharda University in Uttar Pradesh, India has offered a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) with a Blockchain Specialization. The four-year undergraduate degree is taught on-campus by the School of Engineering and Technology.
The curriculum provides students with an in-depth understanding of blockchain and cryptocurrency. There is the opportunity to learn the Solidity programming language. The degree costs ₹179,000 (≈$2,500) per year for Indian residents, or $3,800 per year for international students.
Nanyang Technological University
Since July 2019, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore has offered a Master of Science (MS) in FinTech. Hosted by the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, the master’s degree is an intensive one-year, full-time or two-year, part-time program. All classes are delivered on-campus on weekday evenings or Saturdays, making it accessible to working professionals.
The curriculum is built upon data science, artificial intelligence, and information technology. It consists of two tracks: Artificial Intelligence and Operations and Compliance. A compulsory course examines Blockchain Systems and Applications and there is an elective course on Applied Cryptography.
The degree costs S$35,000 (≈$25,500) for Singapore citizens, S$45,000 (≈$33,000) for permanent residents, and S$55,000 (≈$40,000) for international students.
University of the Cumberlands
Since Summer 2019, the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky has offered a Master of Science (MS) in Global Business with Blockchain Technology. The 100% online master’s degree focuses on the application of blockchain technology across different industries and business functions. It is taught primarily through virtual lab exercises, research theory, and application activities.
The curriculum covers how to create and implement cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications. Students are taught how to develop programming code to implement crypto assets and perform blockchain data mining.
The university also offers an executive version of the program for working professionals. The curriculum is the same but delivered in a blended format combining online and on-campus study, requiring attendance at weekend residency classes in Williamsburg and Florence, Kentucky. As a result, tuition fees for the Executive Master’s ($15,500) are higher than for the Online Master’s ($9,765).
Creighton University
Since Fall 2019, Creighton University has offered a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) with a FinTech major. The degree is taught on-campus at the university’s Heider College of Business in Omaha, Nebraska. The FinTech major was one of the first of its kind, with most blockchain and FinTech degrees offered at the postgraduate level.
The curriculum provides students with an understanding of how technologies like blockchain, machine learning, and artificial intelligence are disrupting traditional financial institutions. Students complete the core coursework of a traditional finance major while also developing technical skills. For example, there is the opportunity to learn to code in languages such as Python and SQL. Students can also elect to complete a FinTech-related internship.
University of Arkansas
Since Fall 2019, the University of Arkansas has offered a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) in Information Systems with a Blockchain Enterprise Systems Concentration.
Taught on-campus at the Walton College of Business, the Information Systems Major is “designed to prepare graduates for careers in solving business problems with applications of computer technology.” Students electing for the Blockchain Enterprise Systems Concentration must take the following courses: Blockchain Fundamentals; Introduction to Blockchain Applications; and Blockchain Enterprise Systems Development.
Since Summer 2020, the University of Arkansas has also offered a one-year, full-time Master of Information Systems (MIS) with a Blockchain Enterprise Systems Concentration. A part-time variant for working professionals can be completed in less than two years, through a blended-delivery format of online classes and monthly face-to-face classes on Saturdays.
Imperial College London
Since September 2019, Imperial College London has offered a Master of Science (MS) in FinTech. The one-year, full-time degree is taught on-campus at Imperial College Business School in London.
The program aims to provide graduates with “in-demand quantitative and analytical skills, including coding and programing capabilities.” The core curriculum covers topics like: accounting; systematic trading strategies; big data; financial econometrics; investment management; and blockchain applications.
Students can customize the degree by choosing from a range of electives, including Blockchain and Crypto Assets. This course covers cryptography, consensus protocols, peer-to-peer networking, Bitcoin, and smart contracts. In order to graduate, students are required to complete either an Applied Project or a traditional Research Project.
Tuition fees are £35,900 (≈$46,500) for both UK and international students. A range of scholarships are available for exceptional applicants.
Dublin City University
Since September 2019, Dublin City University has offered a Master of Science (MS) in Blockchain – Distributed Ledger Technologies. Ireland’s first-ever blockchain master’s degree is taught part-time over two years, primarily online. Continuous assessment is submitted electronically but there are end-of-semester exams requiring attendance in person in Dublin.
The curriculum consists of eight core modules: Research Methods & Professional Skills; Blockchain: Basics & Applications; Cryptography & Number Theory; Cloud Systems; Blockchain Scalability; Public Key Cryptography & Security Protocols; Developing Blockchain Systems; and Computer Security. Successful candidates may be eligible for the part-funded fee of €2,750 (≈$3,000) per annum, provided they are working in private or commercial semi-state organizations registered in the Republic of Ireland.
Moscow Institute of Physics & Technology
Since September 2019, the Moscow Institute of Physics & Technology (MIPT) has offered a Master in Blockchain. Taught on-campus and in English, the full-time master’s degree takes two years (four semesters). The cost is currently 870,000₽ (≈$11,000) but scholarships are available.
The program focuses on blockchain applications and encourages students to develop real-world distributed ledger technology (DLT) solutions. The curriculum covers: cryptography; game theory; Ethereum; Hyperledger Fabric; and tokenomics. There is also the possibility of an internship at IBM.
Polytechnic University of Milan
Since September 2019, the Polytechnic University of Milan has offered an International Master in FinTech, Finance and Digital Innovation. The degree is intended for graduates with less than three years of work experience who want to specialize in FinTech.
The one-year, full-time program is taught in English by the School of Management. Students spend two semesters on-campus in Milan before an international study tour in Europe, followed by a three-month final project. The curriculum combines knowledge of the financial world with information technology skills, including blockchain technology and smart contracts. Tuition fees are €16,500 (≈$19,000) but financial aid is available.
The University of the West of England
Since September 2019, the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) has offered a Master of Science (MS) in FinTech. The one-year, full-time degree (also offered part-time over two years) is taught on-campus at Bristol Business School.
The program aims to provide students with the technical and business skills required to launch a FinTech career. This includes an introduction to programming and data science. Students also have the opportunity to work on live in-house projects with business partners. The curriculum is not heavily focused on blockchain but there is an elective module covering Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies. The required dissertation also allows students to carry out in-depth research in an area of their own choosing.
The master’s degree costs £9,750 (≈$12,500) for full-time UK/EU students, and £13,500 (≈$17,500) for full-time international students.
University of Reading
Since October 2019, the University of Reading has offered a Master of Science (MS) in Finance and FinTech. The full-time degree is taught at the ICMA Centre at Henley Business School in Berkshire, England.
Students have the option of studying for nine or twelve months. Those who choose the twelve-month option will take an additional elective between July and August, which can be a work placement and project. The curriculum includes: blockchain and cryptocurrencies; Python programming; digital banking and payment systems; machine learning and big data; and FinTech regulation and data protection. There is the opportunity to gain a professional certification in the KNIME Analytics Platform.
The cost of tuition is £17,300 (≈$22,500) for UK/EU students, and £24,900 (≈$32,000) for international students. A range of scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and relevant work experience.
University of Malta
Since October 2019, the University of Malta has offered a Master of Science (MS) in Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT). The degree is taught on-campus either full-time (over three semesters) or part-time.
The multi-disciplinary program is designed to provide students with an understanding of blockchain and DLTs and their applications, including smart contracts and cryptocurrencies, as well as policy and regulatory challenges. There are three variants of the master’s degree, giving students the choice to focus on a particular specialization: Business and Finance; Law and Regulation; or Information and Communication Technology. All three variants require a dissertation to be written during the final semester.
Tuition fees are €10,000 (≈$11,500) for both EU and non-EU students. Scholarships are available.
University of Salamanca
Since October 2019, the University of Salamanca in Spain has offered a Master in Blockchain and Smart Contracts, delivered in collaboration with IBM. The one-year graduate degree is taught in Spanish, with intakes beginning in October and February. The program is available in a blended or online format, with students able to choose between attending face-to-face laboratories or streaming online.
The curriculum includes modules on cryptography; consensus algorithms; blockchain platforms; smart contracts; and legal and regulatory aspects of blockchain. A final master’s thesis is also required, and internships are encouraged.
RMIT University
Since February 2021, RMIT University has offered a Bachelor of Business (BBus) in Blockchain Enabled Business and a Master of Blockchain Enabled Business. These multi-disciplinary programs were the first blockchain degrees offered in Australia.
The bachelor’s degree can be completed in three-years (or six-years part-time), and the master’s degree lasts 18-months (or three-years part-time). Both programs are taught at RMIT’s Melbourne City campus and the university offers February and July intakes. The aim is to provide students with the specialized knowledge and skills needed to “apply and manage blockchain in public and private enterprises.”
The curricula build upon core business skills, covering cryptofinance and FinTech, smart contracts, blockchain for trade, and the legal, ethical, and regulatory aspects of new technologies. Students undertake a capstone project to solve a real industry problem. There is also the opportunity to complete an internship, in Australia or overseas, or join a global study exchange program.
Polytechnic University of Catalonia
From May 2021, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain will offer a Master in Blockchain and Business Applications. The 12-month online degree will be taught in Spanish and delivered in collaboration with the Three Points School for Digital Business, an offshoot of OBS Business School.
The curriculum consists of 10 modules split across three themes: Blockchain Fundamentals; Blockchain Platforms; and Blockchain Business Applications. Students will also undertake two practical workshops and complete a final master’s project during an industry placement.
Costs for the online master’s degree are €7,200 (≈$8,700).
Karnavati University
From July 2021, Karnavati University in India will offer a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Cryptography & Blockchain. The three-year undergraduate degree will be delivered by the newly-established United world School of Computational Intelligence (USCI).
Classes will be taught at the university’s 33-acre campus in Uvarsad near Gandhinagar, Gujarat, although a blended approach will be encouraged. The curriculum will cover the fundamentals of blockchain technology and cryptography, including smart contracts, cryptocurrencies, blockchain applications, and Ethereum.
